Wild Olive (Olea Europaea)

Approx. age: 45 years old

Height: 60 cm, Width: 30 cm; Base: 30 cm

Pot: Japanese

This wild olive tree was dug out in 2009 and acquired by Bonsai Mujo in 2010. Originally, the tree showed substantial inverse taper halfway through the trunk, spoiling the its gentle curves. This called for drastic carving to alliviate the fault and create a jin-like feature.

In late 2011, after over 8 hours of machine-carving, broken down in 3 sessions, spectacular deadwood was created. Since then, the deadwood has seasoned and acquired grey patina, typical of olive deadwood.

Foliage design is liberal in its arrangement to underlign the wild nature of the tree. The tree will reach its full protential in three to four years. It's currently potted in a classic Japanese Tokoname pot, the colour of which is reminiscent of some of the bark tones.
